What you did not know about Bingo!
Bingo can be traced back as far as 1530, with a lottery type game with Italian origins.
The game back then was called "Lo Givovo del Lotto D'Italia". It was then introduced to France in the 1770's under the name of "Le lotto", and was predominately played by wealthy Frenchman. The Germans used the game as an educational tool for children during the 1800's.
Once the game had crossed the Atlantic Ocean to the States it was originally called Beano. A toy salesman called Edwin S Lowe then thought he heard the name "Bingo" being called out instead of "Beano" and that is when the original Bingo was introduced!
The game is played in a number of formats with the most common being 75 and 90 ball games. The caller calls out the number of the ball to which the players then match these numbers to a random card. The first person to complete either a row, two rows or a full card (known as a full house) will then shout out the name Bingo to inform the caller and other players they have a potential winning card. Once this is verified the first person to have called out Bingo will be declared the winner.
Bingo has been increasingly famous around the world and is played in large Bingo Halls, holiday resorts, cruise ships and fund raisers. The popularity of the game is so massive, that Bingo is now the fastest growing game online with millions joining in every month!
